As Configured Topic for Serialized Items

The As Configured topic provides you with a graphical view of the serial item positions structure, if defined, and allows you to move available serialized child items in and out of these defined positions to provide an accurate view of the current configuration of a serialized end item.

The As Configured topic reflects the exact make-up of a complete main equipment unit by a set of serialized items arranged in accordance with a user-defined serial number structure through all levels.

Each individual serialized item is underwritten by an Object Baseline which completely covers the exact configuration of the serialized item, including all its underwriting documents and associated data.

The underwriting documents and data supporting the As-Configured situation can include the following:

  • Technical and other supportive documents
  • Configuration changes
  • Deviations and waivers
  • Modifications
  • Build History contained in Documents

When a serialized component item is removed from a main equipment item serial number structure (for replacement by another serialized component item), all associated attributes, references to other objects, as well as associated documentation, remain associated with the removed (replaced) component item. The As-Configured status of the complete main equipment is automatically updated.

The transaction enables you to manage the replacement of serialized/batched components within a specific serialized/batched product. When a serialized/batched component is removed from the product, all its attributes, references to its serialized/batched components, baselines, modifications, deviations and waivers and all other documentation remain referenced to the removed serialized/batched item.

An existing serial/batch number not fitted in a product must be associated with a location, to enable you to track the location of the serial/batch number. For example, a serial number 12345 (not fitted) is located in Store ABC, Bin 5.

An existing serial/batch number fitted in a product may not be associated with a location. The serial/batch number, when fitted, will form part of the product (or higher serialized/batched item). The fitted serial/batch number will be fitted in a specific position in relation to the next higher serial/batch number.

Before using the As Configured functionality the following preparation should be followed:

  • A serial item list must be defined for the parent serialized item. For more information, see List - Serialized Items Topic .
  • At least a storage location object must be defined to move serialized items in and out of the positional structure.
